No criminal charges planned from December’s fatal I-80 pileup

LOGANTON – No criminal charges will be filed in relation to last month’s 64-vehicle pileup in a snowstorm on Interstate 80 near Loganton, state police say.
The initial investigations are completed into the 11 separate crashes that left tractor-trailer trucks and cars mangled on slightly more than a mile of highway, they said Thursday.
“It’s like something you don’t expect to see unless you are in a combat zone,” Scott Kemmerer, Clinton County emergency management director, had said earlier.
One driver was killed in the Dec. 16 pileup and another died from what Clinton County Coroner Zach Hanna said was sudden cardiac arrest. Some of the 22 injured required hospitalization.
