Karachi: Outgoing Administrator of Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani has said that efforts are on to transform Karachi into a modern city after resolving its issues related to water supply, drainage, road network, garbage disposal and public transportation.
The Outgoing Administrator Karachi stated this while addressing a conference on making Pakistan a modern state. Shallwani’s speech at the conference was his last public appearance as the administrator Karachi as afterwards he, being a senior officer of the Pakistan’s civil service, is transferred to Islamabad to serve in the federal government after promoted to grade-22.
In his place, Sindh government has posted a grade-20 bureaucrat Laeeq Ahmed as the new administrator Karachi. Prior to becoming the new Karachi’s administrator, Ahmed was Sindh government’s secretary for its Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department.
Reshuffle in city bureaucracy

The Sindh government on Saturday carried out a reshuffle in the provincial capital’s bureaucracy, appointing a new city administrator and commissioner.
The existing Karachi commissioner and administrator, Iftikhar Ali Shallwani, was removed from the posts and directed to report to the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department (SGA&CD), in a notification issued by the department.
Meanwhile, Laeeq Ahmed - the excise, taxation and narcotics secretary - was posted as the city administrator, and Navid Ahmed Shaikh from the SGA&CD was posted as the city commissioner, both with immediate effect.
Commissioner orders painting skyscrapers

Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Ali Shallwani has ordered painting skyscrapers in different parts of the city. According to details shared by the commissioner office, all the deputy commissioners of the six districts of the city, who also have the additional charge of administrators of their respective districts, have been directed to gather data on tall buildings and start getting them painted.
The owners of renowned buildings on the main streets of the city will be responsible for the maintenance and decoration of such tall structures. Shallwani has directed the residents of high-rises to keep flower pots in the galleries, pointing out that due to low maintenance and pollution, the buildings are giving a bad image to the city.

The KMC anti-encroachment department conducted Friday operations in two districts of Karachi–Central and South.
In District Central, the KMC teams removed encroachments from service roads and footpaths in Nazimabad, Paposh Nagar and Sarafa Bazaar.
In District South, the KMC anti-encroachment department conducted operations in the Ranchore Lane area. They targeted Jamila Street, which is one of the busiest thoroughfares in Karachi.
They removed soft encroachments, such as push carts, cabins and âpatharasâ from the street.
