Porirua-born Ieremia Moore at training at St John Bosco High School in California, US.
Two years ago, Ieremia Moore was playing rugby on a paddock in Hamilton with his mates and had loose dreams of playing representative rugby. On Monday, the Porirua-born 18-year-old announced his commitment to attend the University of California, Berkeley’s football program on a full scholarship. It’s a big step, but at six-foot-three and 122kg Moore has never trodden lightly. In the 16 months he’s been stateside, he’s had to learn a new game, make new friends and assimilate into a new culture. But so far he has excelled, forcing his way on to the radar of scouts from universities across the country. He was named the Defensive Line MVP at the SoCal National Preps Showcase in November last year, and came out of high school with a three-star (out of five) rating.

Cal announced on Wednesday that linebacker Ieremia Moore of St. John Bosco High School signed his letter of intend to join Cal s 2021 recruiting class.
Moore is the 21st member of the Golden Bears 2021 class, with the other 20 players signing during the early signing period in December. The 247Sports website ranks Cal s 2021 class as the 28th-best in the country and third-best in the Pac-12. Rivals ranks the Bears class 39th overall and fifth in the conference..
Moore was listed as a strong-side defensive end on the recruiting sites, but Cal sees him as a linebacker. That could change when Moore gets on campus because the New Zealand native has never played in an organized football game.

Cal usually has its entire recruiting class for the following season set by the early signing date in December, but the Bears got another commitment for the class of 2021 on Sunday defensive end Ieremia Moore of St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif.
What is also odd is that Moore has never played a down of football.
Moore s choice came down to three schools – Cal, UCLA and Duke. The Bears had offered Moore a scholarship just four days ago, on Wednesday.
