December 17, 2020 Kelvin Masambo - Nyasa Times 35 Comments On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) held three parliamentary by-elections: one in Phalombe North Constituency in Phalombe district, another one in Mangochi West Constituency in Mangochi district and another one in Mangochi North East Constituency in the same district. DPP’s Nankhumwa and regional governor Chalres Mchacha introduce Bokosi (c)  In Mangochi West Constituency an independent candidate Reuben Kanyama won with 5,648 seconded by another independent candidate, Simeon Harrison who got 5,636 votes. In Phalombe it is also another independent, Mabvuto Bokosi, who has won with 8,256 votes followed by Justin Samuel Mokowa of UTM with 3,804.

UDF candidate Idi Kalosi wins Mangochi by-elections

United Democratic Front (UDF’s) Idi Kalosi is unofficially legislator for Mangochi North East Constituency after ammassing majority votes in Tuesday’s by-election, MBC can confirm from the unofficial results seen. Kalosi has won the Parliamentary seat with 9, 898 votes, seconded by independent candidate Martin Nyengo, who got 8, 961 and Duncan Cassim of UTM who polled 158. Mangochi North East Constituency had 18 polling centres with a total number of 31, 501 registered voters. The seat fell vacant following the nullification of the 2019 Parliamentary results for the Constituency by the High Court in Blantyre which subsequently ordered a fresh election citing gross irregularities in the previous one.
