The eus vaccine situation is at crisis point, according to the financial times. The metro says Nicola Sturgeon is siding with the eu in the row, by offering to help with supplies. The mirrors front page features its campaign to get teachers vaccinated in phase two of the roll out. The times reports that borisjohnson insists that the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine does work for over 65s, after germany has decided not to use it for that age group. current situation. boxing day sales begin in the uk but will the high streets be busy or will shoppers be cutting back as the cost of living crisis bites? and north america s deep freeze. severe winter weather claims 38 lives across the united states and canada. hello and welcome to bbc news. a russian air base hundreds of kilometres from ukraine has come under attack for the second time in less than a month. the russian defence ministry says the engels base in the southern saratov region was targetted by ukrainian drones during the night. russia says it shot down the drones, but that three of its servicemen were killed by falling debris. the airfield is believed to house russian long range strategic bombers. there has been no comment from ukraine. the bbc s russia editor steve rosenberg says the last attack on the airbase, three weeks ago, led to calls for tighter security. this is deep inside russian territory. when the first attack happened earlier this month that wa

now, there could be some transitionalsnow, but again, still lots of uncertainty on the southern extent of that snow on the leading edge. it s quite likely that the mild air will push through really rather quickly. temperatures climbing on tuesday, turning wet and windy from the south west. and there won t be any big changes as we head through the rest of the week. the air certainly a lot milder. there ll be some showers, some longer spells of rain and low pressure is dominant and there ll be some brisk south westerly winds blowing as well. so very similar to how it has been so far this week. unsettled and possibly really quite mild for the time of year, too. so in summary, next week it s a very chilly, frosty, icy start. there will be some wintry showers in the north and towards eastern facing coast and then from tuesday onwards, turning milder with some rain around at times and a brisk south westerly wind.
