greg skwrerette garrett broke the story for us yesterday. and he has the latest today. what a difference 24 hours makes when it comes to the ice message, greg. reporter: absolutely and a hrat of parsing of words. let s begin with the memorandum bow itself from john morton. in it he announces a quote, new policy, encouraging or directing ice lawyers to dismiss cases against illegals who have active applications to become citizens, as long as they don t have criminal records, and might be eligible to remain here. now the memo is dated as you point out august 20th. it directs the ice attorneys to check the cases of detained illegals for any, quote, investigations or serious adverse factors weighing against dismissal, including criminal convictions, fraud and national security and public safety considerations. if no investigations or serious adverse factors exist the
pass commonsense immigration reforms. but house republicans have said immigration reform is dead in this session of congress. just last week, house speaker john boehner spokesman michael steel issued a statement which said, and i quote, the american people and their elected officials don t trust him, meaning the president, to enforce the law as written. until that changes, it s going to be difficult to make progress on this issue. earlier this week, white house press secretary said the president has asked congress for more funding for adding immigration judges, asylum officials, i.c.e. attorneys and prosecutors and bringing on additional facilities. but it will do nothing about the problem of the lack of enforcement at the border. the president s approach to fixing the immigration issue where people are running acontrols the border is the equivalent of putting more water in the ninth ward of new orleans right after katrina. if you have more immigrants than you can handle then the o
