Wisconsin's least popular state parks offer more than a quiet experience away from crowds

Wisconsin s least popular state parks offer more than a quiet experience away from crowds Chelsey Lewis, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel © Chelsey Lewis/Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Aztalan State Park is a National Historic Landmark that showcases restored flat-topped mounds built by Native Americans who lived in the area between A.D. 1050 and 1200. Devil’s Lake has long held the title of Wisconsin’s most popular park, and it’s easy to see why. Its dramatic quartzite cliffs and namesake lake, coupled with its proximity to the state’s major metropolitan areas, make it a must-visit for most Wisconsinites (and Midwesterners).  But its large number of visitors can detract from the quiet natural experience many people seek in the outdoors.
