WOMEN’S organisations vowed to stand by those who expose sexual abuse and rape on Saturday after a new “me too” scandal started to engulf Turkey’s so-called “intelligentsia.” More than 50 groups signed a statement in recognition of a “women’s rebellion” which was triggered after a sexual harassment complaint was made against well-known author Hasan Ali Toptas. Twitter user Leyla Salinger faced what has been described as “a lynching” after making allegations against Mr Toptas, which he admitted but dismissed as the act of a “patriarchal perpetrator.” She was threatened and abused for speaking out and exposing her ordeal at the hands of Mr Toptas while she was a university student.
