Spanish education minister says benefits of reopening schools outweigh risks 1 minute read Madrid, May 13 (EFE).- Spanish Minister of Education Isabel Celaá said Thursday that the advantage of students of all ages returning to classrooms far outweigh the risks. She is due to discuss the issue at a meeting with the health ministry and regional governments next week. Celaa made the remarks during a discussion on the “Opportunities for education cooperation in Latin America,” which was attended by the secretary-general of the Organization of Ibero-American States, Mariano Jabonero and the President of EFE, Gabriela Cañas. Throughout the past academic year, many Spanish students at different levels of middle and high school have been learning through a combination of remote, online classes and in-person lessons at school, depending on their place of residence.

Portuguese is one of the few languages in the world with the status of a “global language” since it has more than 10 million speakers among the more than 7,000 living languages. This year, the Portuguese city of Guimarães has the honor to host the festivities with several themed cultural events taking place in the City Hall. Other events, in person and in virtual format, were organized by the University of Minho and taking place at the Centro Cultural Vila Flor. According to estimates, by the United Nations (UN), the Portuguese language is currently spoken by more than 260 million people on five continents, and is projected to be spoken in 2050 by about 400 million, and in 2100 by more than 500 million people.
