NFU Scotland (NFUS) president, Martin Kennedy, made the comments following a meeting with European farmers’ unions body Copa-Cogeca, where he spoke with European Commission officials. “I was left in absolutely no doubt that the whole Brexit saga is far from over,” said Mr Kennedy, writing on the NFUS blog. “It was blatantly obvious, given the response from the commission to questions, that Brexit was a UK decision and therefore the UK will have to face the consequences for any friction in trade or checks.”

NFU Scotland’s (NFUS) Perth office has scored a hat-trick by winning a prize for recruiting more members than any other union region for the third consecutive year. The union’s flame award, which recognises outstanding efforts in recruitment and membership retention, has been won by the team of Margaret Hebbourn, Katy Neill, and Marc Robb who look after the interests of more than 500 members across branches in Perth, Crieff, Blairgowrie and Highland Perthshire.

Sign Up Farm leaders have called on supermarkets to show their support for Scottish and British pig producers by stocking more British pork on their shelves. NFU Scotland (NFUS) has written to all major supermarkets asking them to give reassurances that British and Scottish pork will be readily available in all of their shops. The union said its plea comes following reports that some retailers have a “very high proportion” of non-British pork on their shelves.
