Bend Park and Recreation District (BPRD) and Upper Deschutes Watershed Council (UDWC) are ready to begin a construction and river restoration project aimed to serve as a model for balancing recreational access and habitat protection and improvement. The Riverbend South Access & Restoration project will result in: The creation of three designated access points where user-created access points with eroding streambanks currently exist, so recreational users can access the river without harming existing or restored habitat. Restoring and fencing off riparian areas outside of new designated access points where existing user-created access points have led to impacts to vegetation and the erosion of streambanks. New habitat will also be created as part of this project. Improved accessibility by integrated terracing to facilitate ease of access for those with mobility limitations and children. In partnership with the Bend Park and Recreation District, EP Climbing manufactured a state-of-the-art, outdoor bouldering area for the Alpenglow Community Park in Bend, Oregon.
The Bend Park and Recreation District is pleased to open the Alpenglow Community Park in Southeast Bend. Located at 61049 SE 15th Street, a half mile north of Knott Road, the 37-acre park is in one of Bend's rapidly growing areas and will serve as a hub for recreation activities, community gatherings, opportunities to enjoy nature and connections to trails. Alpenglow Park includes an open lawn area, bouldering area, playground and spray-ground, event pavilion, off-leash area for dogs, future demonstration garden, and several accessible trails and multi-use pathways. The park is open for public use now, with a couple of exceptions – the playground awaits final approval, expected next week and the pedestrian bridge over the railroad will be completed next month. Surfacing installation challenges and the wet spring weather caused playground delays that are resolved now and final inspection is scheduled for next week.
