Girchi calls for Parliament to refuse suspension of 51 opposition seats

On February 1, three MPs of the opposition Girchi party Iago Khvichia, Aleksandre Rakviashvili, and Vakhtang Megreishvili announced that in case the Georgian Parliament satisfies the request of 51 opposition MPs and suspends their seats tomorrow, they will too suspend their own seats. The Girchi MPs also addressed the ruling Georgian Dream party to not support the decision of the opposition MPs to suspend their seats.
Khvichia, Rakviashvili, and Megreishvili added that the negotiations were carried out with the help of the countrys dip corps, and neither the ruling party nor the opposition has publically expressed that desire to quit the negotiations. The controversial Girchi party is faced with an internal crisis, as one of the partys co-founders, Zurab Japaridze has announced that he no longer wants to be associated with the partys other three key figures - Iago Khvichia, Vakhtang Megrelishvili, and Aleksandre Rakviashvili. The reasons are not yet specified, however, Japaridze claimed that it has nothing to do with the highly controversial statement from Iago Khvichia, who has recently expressed his views on the possession of underage pornography, saying nobody should be punished for watching anything. It is yet to be seen how the partys leaders will come to a working compromise, without jeopardizing years of Girchis hard work.
