Regular readers know of my love for greenways. In our otherwise unspectacular village of Enfield, the Royal Canal Greenway has given us not just somewhere safe to cycle or walk, but a facility that has changed our quality of life. However it’s only now – and I’m years late to the party – that I’m learning about the row in Mayo between campaigners for a greenway and supporters of railway restoration.
On Tuesday last, I invited myself to a small libation of Amaretti and ice in the cottage, before departing off to the Dalkey Dangler’s private art exhibition, to be held in his own pad. Or his crib, as the Yanks would say.
Famous as the oldest woman in Ireland, Máirín Hughes has died at the age of 109 after a wide and varied life. She was noted for her tireless energy and unfailing good humour.
