When a snowstorm hit the region this week, Bess Gaby, executive director of Hygienic Art in New London, remained determined to still hold an outdoor holiday market planned for Saturday.
So she, along with help from six artists in residence and friends, shoveled for hours on Thursday and continued on Saturday so artists could have an opportunity to sell their goods and talk with customers at a socially distanced, outdoor event.
“It’s cold, but it’s a beautiful day,” she said during the event Saturday.
Local merchants, organizations and businesses grappling during the pandemic this year faced yet another challenge this week when a snowstorm hit in the midst of the holiday shopping season. But many, who worked this season to expand their offerings for customers, continued with events and promotions this weekend to draw shoppers back outside.
