Hurley looks into drilling third well Written by Nickolas Seibel on March 10, 2021 During the Hurley Town Council’s meeting Tuesday, officials announced that the town is currently awaiting approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to install a third production water well, a change necessary to continue work on the Hurley Water Improvement Project to provide the town with its own water source for the first time. Having a water source independent from mining company Freeport-McMoRan has been an ongoing project for more than 10 years, with funding having already been awarded by multiple agencies, but the current remaining balance of $378,000 is funding from the USDA that needs approval before beginning design and construction of a new shallow well.
