Have your say on Whitsunday response to climate change risks

Now is your chance to have your say on how the Whitsunday region adapts to climate change hazards such as storm surges and sea level rise, with a new plan outlining actions for towns including Airlie Beach and Bowen released today for community feedback. Whitsunday Regional Council has developed a draft Climate Hazard Adaptation Strategy, outlining its plans to address predicted sea level rise in the region’s coastal communities. The CHAS studies have found that by 2100, almost 590 residential dwellings in the region will experience an increase of 80cm in sea level over the next 80 years. The sea level rise will also impact roads and underground water and sewage infrastructure.

A Guide To Hopping The 8 Best Spots In The Whitsundays

I never thought I’d  actually miss having my IG feed flooded with Euro-summer getaway snaps, and considering the current state of things, it’s going to be that way for the time being. Although overseas travel is (most likely) off the agenda for a while, Australia is bountiful in locations that are honestly stunning enough to put any Greek Island-hopping and the majestic turquoise of the Mediterranean to bed. Don’t believe me? May I present to you exhibit A: The Whitsundays. READ MORE Located on the north-east coast of Queensland in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, The Whitsundays is world-famous for it’s 74 pristine islands, blindingly white sand, serene coves, kaleidoscopic reefs and millions of other natural wonders that are all packaged together in a feast of awe-striking beauty.

Eight interesting items on today s council meeting agenda

Cough up for parking Drivers may soon have to fork out to park at another Airlie Beach carpark as it is recommended councillors implement paid parking in the carpark next to the Whitsunday Sailing Club. The proposed fees will be in line with fees currently charged at the Port of Airlie, Coral Sea Marina and Airlie Beach Lagoon Precinct carparks. The cost will begin at $3 for zero to two hours and parking permits will also be available at $174 for 28 days, $874 for six months and $1398 for a year. Agenda documents state the installation of paid parking in the area will enable the Parking and Infringement Integrated Management System project to be finished.

10 interesting items on agenda for first council meeting

Project switch The councillors will discuss whether to forgo the previously approved Railway Road Footpath Project in Collinsville, funded through Works for Queensland, and use the $400,000 elsewhere. It was recommended the funding instead be used to irrigate the Collinsville Showground Oval, complete the missing footpath/pedestrian footbridge link along Scottville Rd and complete street beautification on Stanley St. Agenda documents state community consultation showed the Railway Road project was not considered a high priority for Collinsville residents. It was recommended the councillors use the funding for the alternative projects, rather than the Railway Road Footpath Project. Bowen Men s Shed ownership
