Community Counts: Building Post-COVID Community

The tagline for my column says it “chronicles community building on Cape Cod,” and indeed, that’s been the primary focus for almost all my reflections in this space for nearly a decade. For the past 15 months, though, it seems as if it’s been “all-COVID, all the time.” How to get out of that rut?
For indeed, it is certainly a rut. All of us, I dare say, developed coping mechanisms, both big and small – routines that helped us maintain some semblance of control over what was essentially an uncontrolled, once-in-a-century catastrophe. And now, as we venture out into the world again, in our attempts to restore a “normal” life, many of us are suffering unexpected anxiety.
