VICTORIA FALLS: Zanu PF is planning to make inroads and reclaim all parliamentary and local council seats in the MDC Alliance-dominated Hwange district.
For years, Hwange and Binga districts in Matabeleland North province, have been MDC strongholds with the opposition commanding 100% national assembly seats and more than 95% of local authority seats.
The Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance is in charge of 11 wards in the Victoria Falls city council while Zanu PF has no ward in the Hwange Local Board and Binga Rural District Council (RDC).
The ruling party finds solace in Hwange Rural District Council where it has only two seats.

HWANGE: The local community here has petitioned Beifa Investments, a Chinese-owned mining company, exploring for coal in Dinde area to stop forthwith any mining activities as doing so violates the culture and heritage of the Nambya people.
Beifa Investments torched a storm recently when it started exploring for coal in Ward 13, Dinde without consulting villagers.
The villagers fear over 600 families will be displaced if the project continues and have accused local leaders including the traditional leader, Chief Nekatambe and Hwange Rural District Council officials of nicodemously allowing the mine company to continue carrying out the exploration work despite their protests.

VILLAGERS in Dinde area, Hwange are locked in stand-off with Chinese investors over the foreigners’ proposed coal exploration operations.
The villagers want the operation stopped arguing the Chinese investors are in breach of Zimbabwe’s environmental and customary laws.
They also accuse the investors of failing to produce any documents granting them permission to work in the area nor did they engage the local community for social cohesion.
The Chinese investors operating as Beifer Investments, moved to Dinde to start the work last Friday in Ward 13 of Hwange Rural District, Matabeleland North.
However, villagers fear that, should the project continue, they will be forced to relocate while others will be exposed to air and water pollution of Nyantuwe River which provides drinking water for humans and livestock.

Dete: A pride of six lions is reportedly causing havoc around Dete in Hwange where it has killed goats with villagers now living in fear of being attacked.
Six adult male lions and some cubs have reportedly camped at Dete centre where they patrol between the railway line and Marist Brothers Secondary School turn-off in Magoli area, literally making the whole place a no-go area for locals.
The pride has reportedly killed seven goats at the Central Mechanical Engineering Department (CMED) depot where they are usually spotted at night.
Hwange ward 15 councillor Stanley Torima whose area covers Dete and Marist areas said the community is living in fear.
