The owner of a daycare center in Taichung and three caregivers were fined a combined NT$750,000 for “mistreating” infants in their care on multiple occasions last year, the Taichung Social Affairs Bureau said on Tuesday.
The three caregivers Huang Yun-en (黃昀恩), Chien Shu-chen (簡淑貞) and Lin Kuan-ping (林瓘萍) were fined NT$150,000 each for “repeated inappropriate child care practices” at Hwa Shin Infant Care Center, based on the Protection of Children and Youths Welfare and Rights Act (兒童及少年福利與權益保障法), the bureau said in a statement.

Taipei, March 1 (CNA) The owner of a Taichung-based daycare center and three caregivers were fined a combined NT$750,000 (US$26,785) for "mistreating" infants in their care on multiple occasions last year, the city's Social Affairs Bureau said Tuesday.
Taichung is to introduce harsher punishments for individuals found guilty of child abuse, the Taichung City Government said on Wednesday, after it has been criticized for imposing the minimum fine of NT$60,000 in child abuse cases.
The announcement came after the New Power Party (NPP) criticized the city for being too lenient in several abuse cases at daycare centers.
The NPP told a news conference earlier in the day that since Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) took office in December 2018, at least seven cases of alleged child abuse by caregivers at daycare centers have been reported in the city.
