Schalke have been relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time since 1988 following their 1-0 defeat to Arminia Bielefeld on Matchday 30.
The result marked the Royal Blues 21st loss of the current campaign and leaves them bottom of the Bundesliga standings with just 13 points on the board. As such, they are 13 adrift of Hertha Berlin, who currently occupy the relegation play-off spot, meaning it is no longer possible for Dimitrios Grammozis s side to avoid the drop.
This is just the fourth time Schalke have been relegated from the top-flight in their history, following on from 1981, 1983 and 1988, since which point they have been in the Bundesliga without interruption.

Two Sponsors for Next Year Friday, 6th Apr 2001 10:33
The story claiming that Town are looking to have two sponsors for next year has surfaced again. And it seems Greene King are certain to keep their involvement in the club in some way.
It had been thought that the brewers had been priced out of the market with the value of Town s sponsorship somewhere around the £2.5 million level. This would increase should Town enter Europe and it is thought Town might have a different sponsor for any European games.
There seems to be a lot of speculation flying about and not many facts but Greene King do seem determined to stay involved at Portman Road into the future while it seems likely that a larger company, perhaps BT, NTL or National Power as mentioned earlier in the week, may have a high profile role too.
