By Eric Freedman A federal judge has slapped a Western Pennsylvania copper-processing company with a $550,000 fine for its years-long criminal violations of the Clean Water Act, including illegal discharging of oil into the Ohio River. U.S. District Judge William Stickman IV also put Hussey Copper on probation for three years. The company pleaded guilty to charges stemming from violations at its Leetsdale facility that manufactures copper products for electrical distribution and residential and industrial construction markets, according to a press statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Pittsburgh. The Hussey Copper website proclaims “The Element of Trust” as a company philosophy and describes the company as “stable, responsive and reliable since 1848.”

( Zohar III ) and Ark II CLO 2001-1, Ltd.  KPS acquired Hussey Copper as part of an ongoing monetization process conducted by Zohar III.  The United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware formally approved the transaction on November 30, 2020.  Hussey Copper is the third acquisition completed by KPS Special Situations Mid-Cap Fund (the Mid-Cap Fund ).  Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Hussey Copper to pay fine, serve probation

LEETSDALE A local copper manufacturing company this week pleaded guilty to discharging excess pollutants, including oil and copper, into the Ohio River over a five-year period. Hussey Copper, represented by CEO John Harrington, pleaded guilty in federal court to three counts under the Clean Water Act, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady said. The company pleaded guilty to one count each of submitting a false discharge monitoring report, releasing a potentially harmful amount of oil into the Ohio River and failing to immediately notify regulators of exceedances. Hussey Copper produces flat-rolled copper products for multiple markets at 100 Washington St. in Leetsdale.
