ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has so far recovered Rs33 billion in former president Asif Ali Zardari’s fake accounts case and the “actual volume of corruption” in the case is approximately five trillion rupees.
In a tweet on Saturday, the minister said the recovered amount is equivalent to about 200 million dollars. At such a recovery level, he said, “one could imagine the scale of corruption in the country and how the past rulers looted the country and Sindh province”. He added that the actual volume of corruption in the fake accounts case was 5,000 billion rupees.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry Saturday said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had so far recovered Rs 33 billion in the Asif Ali Zardari fake accounts case.
In a tweet, the minister said the recovered amount is equal to about $200 million. “In light of this, the volume of corruption that had taken place in the country could easily be gauged. Past rulers had looted Pakistan, particularly Sindh,” he reminded.
Fawad noted that the actual volume of corruption in the fake account case was a whopping Rs 5,000 billion.
This is not the first time that the federal minister has fired a broadside at the Sindh government for their alleged corruption. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered Rs23.85 billion in the fake bank accounts scam, the anti-graft body claimed in a statement issued on Friday.
NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, chaired a meeting at its headquarters to review the performance of the anti-graft body s Rawalpindi wing.
NAB Deputy Chairman Hussain Asghar, Prosecutor General Accountability Syed Asghar Haider, Operations DG Zahir Shah, NAB Rawalpindi DG Irfan Naeem Mangi, and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
