The Nebraska baseball team (26-11) extended their lead in the Big Ten with an 8-5 win over Indiana (24-14) in the series opener. The Huskers have now taken two of three from the Hoosiers and will face off one more time this series.
The NU offense stole the show early when they put up four runs in the top of the second inning. Two walks and a single from
Max Anderson put runners on all three bases and
Brice Matthews cleared them with a double down the left field line.
Griffin Everitt doubled in the next at-bat and drove in the freshman to give the Big Red an early 4-0 lead.

Nebraska is 1-1 against both the Hoosiers and Buckeyes this season. The Huskers played Ohio State during week two of the season in Minneapolis at U.S. Bank Stadium and saw the Hoosiers twice in Piscataway two weeks ago at the Rutgers Pod.
Nebraska’s weekend at Bart Kaufman Field kicks off on Friday night at 7 PM (CT) against the Hoosiers and the game will be carried nationally on BTN. The Huskers then play two games on Saturday, starting with the Buckeyes at Noon before a 5:30 PM contest against the Hoosiers on ESPNU. The Nebraska baseball team (25-11) scored nine runs in the final two innings to come back and beat Northwestern (12-18) 11-5 in game two. This win give them the series sweep as well after game three has been called off due to the Wildcats not having enough pitchers. The game will be deemed “no contest.”
Chance Hroch got the start for the Huskers and he struggled to find his stuff early. The senior pitched a scoreless first inning, but Northwestern struck first in the top of the second inning when
Hroch gave up a leadoff double, followed by a base hit that scored one. A sacrifice bunt later scored another run and the Wildcats led by two.
Everitt sent a ball over the left field wall to score two and
Sartori got a hit in his first collegiate at bat that brought in NU’s 12th run of the day.
Cade Povich ended his day after seven shutout innings and only allowing two hits. The junior struck out five Wildcats and walked zero.
Emmett Olson took the mound in the eighth inning and gave up just one hit for no runs. In the ninth inning
Braxton Bragg took over and struggled to put the game away. The sophomore gave up three hits and walked two batters which scored two runs.

The series opener is set for 6:30 PM (CT) on Friday night at Hawks Field. The teams then meet at 2 PM on Saturday and the game will be broadcast statewide on NET. Sunday’s finale is scheduled for Noon.
The Huskers enter the weekend 0.5 game back of Indiana (23-10) for first place in the Big Ten, with the Hoosiers visiting Michigan this weekend for a three-game series. The Wolverines sit third in the league with a 23-12 record, 1.0 game out of first place and 0.5 game behind Nebraska for second place.
