Jury finds man who climbed on top of woman in Dorchester park guilty of assault

A MAN accused of assaulting a woman dog walker in a South Oxfordshire beauty spot has been found guilty. Robert Newman, 33, of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, had denied assault by beating and one count of assault with intent to commit a sexual offence. Today at Oxford Crown Court, after a three-day trial, the jury found him guilty. They had heard in court that at around 11am on August 3, 2020, Newman followed lone female dog walkers around Hurst Water Meadow in Dorchester ‘pushing one of them into a nettle bush and attempting to climb on top of her’. He told her to ‘shh’, ‘like he was talking to a child’, but she was screaming ‘as loud as she could’ while repeatedly punching and kicking him.
