welcome back to the black fin saloon in charlotte. the president s speech has been moved inside. we don t have to worry about the weather here. let s send it up to new york for a check of the rest of the forecast with bill charnz. good morni bill karins. good morning, williwillie. michael is far out in the open atlantic, rapidly intensified last night. we have hurricane leslie that we re tracking. so two hurricanes and one feature of interest in the gulf of mexico. you can see the two hurricanes on the map here. the one that is going to affect the eastern united states is leslie with large waves and rip currents. that could head for the canadian maritime, especially newfoundland. also slow development is possible in the gulf of mexico. this isn t what you want to hear, especially after just what happened. it doesn t look like this should be anything too major. if anything does develop, it would drift to north florida three days from now. also showers this morning in northern virginia

storm. leslie not expected to hit the u.s. michael became the seventh hurricane of the season, but no threat to land. a relatively light year for tornados, but we have seen dozens of twisters in the past week alone. we have isaac to blame for that. abc s sam champion has more. reporter: remnants of hurricane isaac are dumping rain, 9 inches in the past 24 hours in new jersey. and spawning twisters. this is cell phone video of a funnel cloud forming in cherry hill, new jersey. isaac has been a tornadomaker since its landfall. this one, in gulf port, mississippi. and has left a trail of twisters for days as far north at arkansas, missouri, and illinois. but even with all of isaac s action, it has been a surprisingly light summer for tornadoes. the severe storms laboratory in norman, oklahoma now saying it is the quietest year since the 1950s. and this summer s crippling dome of heat and drought are the reason. no rain means no storms.
