seeing some aerial images and the devastation is incredible. a category 4 storm just obliterated that popular destination. you ve been to many hurricanes, you were in hurricane harvey last year. what is how does this compare to other hurricanes that you have seen? this was a big storm surge and wind driven. a lot of destruction from the beach side. last year in texas, beaumont was all flood, water up to the gutters. but this morning we just rescued two individuals from a house less than two blocks from here. reporter: are they okay? nonlife-threatening injuries. they are currently being transported to the local hospital. they rode out the storm, basically locked themselves into a room. and we just made first contact with them less than 45 minutes ago. reporter: and communication here nonexistent. people can t reach their family members. no cellphone coverage. no nothing. as you see here, there are
went completely quiet but the back side of the storm came and we have been in the dirty side quote on quote since then. they started swirling things around this area. we ve had roofs that have been blown off buildings, beach erosion. what you would expect from a category 1 hurricane land fall. this was a particularly strong storm when it made its presence felt but it s such a slow mover that we continue to feel the effects. i m really concerned of the catastrophic flooding to continue as one of these heavy bands similar to what we experienced in hoouson for hurricane harvey last year at this time is stais starting to looking at that radar it s very concerning that slow band will eventually creep towards us here
experience. you re about 20 miles away from where i m standing at the moment. closer to the coast. when the eye came through, wilmington and carolina beach there was a false sense of calm. false sense of security. by the residents here. people the ones that decided to ride out the storm came out doors. they went and checked out the state of the property. and then the wind picked up and everything changed. is the debris that was knocked over from the front side of the storm moved in the other trex direction because the wind changed direction. this storm has very similar characteristics to what was hurricane harvey last year. roughly a year ago in houston. it s picking up so much of the atlantic moisture. similar to harvey in the gulf of mexico. a feeder band. it takes the moisture from the ocean and deposits it in heavy
