Wilmington, North Carolina the conditions began to deteriorate. We have seen relatively mild conditions virtually all day long, not to say there is no danger here. The storm did spawn of some tornadoes as early as 6 00 a. M. Today. Some of those smaller tornadoes are snapping off trees, tree limbs and uprooting trees but no major damage beyond that. Again as of 8 00 p. M. Tonight with the storm still about 70 miles directly to the south the wind speeds have begun to pick up. Although it is sporadic, it lulls into a period of relative calmness and then picks up to what i would say is 40, maybe 5. Its expected to get much worse than that. Upwards of a Million People have been evacuated from Barrier Islands in north and South Carolina. City officials here are still warning residents that speeds could get up to 105 miles per hour. This morning divers arrived by helicopter and fbi dive teams continued to head back into the water. You can feel the calm. People are coming to reflect and pay their condol reporter abc 7 news. Its been a busy day for investigators. They spent hours today interviewing the boats owner. Several members of the crew were said to be cooperative. They spent two hours with loved ones of those lost. For us theyre the most important people to us right now. It was important that we provided them with the information that they need, that abc 7 is committed to they get an opportunity to ask building a better bay area. It is moving northeast at 14 miles per hour. Were still 90 miles per hour. Still some tornadic activity. Now it is beginning to wind down a little bit. Still a hurricane but, for us we cool down. Forecast highs will be a little below average to near average. A long stretch in august. In early september, they were all above. That is not the case now. I think it may be below normal temperatures by next tuesday. Locale low clouds filling them. The monsoon clouds are taking an exit stage right. 50s on the temps remaining.
