Waynesboro group in final preparations for online cancer auction fundraiser
Waynesboro Record Herald
After it was wiped out last year, the Waynesboro Area Gala Cancer Auction is in the final preparations for going virtual for 2021.
The auction will be online through Hurley Actions May 15 to 29. We were supposed to have the auction last April and then COVID-19 hit in March, and none of us knew what it would be like, so we rescheduled for July, Jill Kessler of WAGCA said. Then in late May we realized that it would not be possible to have a live in-person auction at Green Grove Gardens, and decided to go online.
A large collection of vintage local advertisements and other memorabilia is up for auction this week.
Hurley Auctions is hosting the estate sale of David R. Sonny Monn, who was an avid collector of memorabilia from his hometown of Mont Alto as well as Quincy, Five Forks, Waynesboro, Greencastle and surrounding areas, according to a news release. The online auction is open through this Friday, Feb. 12.
The auction includes the largest collection of local advertising pieces to ever be sold at once to the public. There is also a variety of cast iron, metal and wooden toys; local stoneware and redware pottery; souvenirs from local places; early comic books and other publications; vintage hats and purses; fraternal badges; collectible porcelain and china items; early photographs and other prints; and much more.
