How to volunteer and donate in New Jersey during the coronavirus outbreak (03/14/21) Updated Mar 18, 2021; Since the coronavirus gripped New Jersey last March, nonprofit groups and social agencies operating in the state have worked to help those who have been hit hardest. This resource guide features groups that work to help those with the greatest need. For those so inclined, there are myriad opportunities to assist the nonprofits and agencies do their work. Organizations welcome volunteers as well as donations of money, food, clothing and other goods. Information on how to contribute is detailed below. Thousands get grants through WIRC Patrick Stout Voice Correspondent MACOMB The boards of the Western Illinois Regional Council and its Community Action Agency were told this week about the number of programs and grants available to thousands of people in McDonough, Warren, Hancock, Henderson, and Knox counties. Director Tracy Camden said 1,900 households were funded through the LIHEAP program, and 20 of the homes had their furnaces repaired or replaced in 2020. She said 50 homes received weatherization grants and the CAA also received $1.75 million in housing rehabilitation grants. Camden said member counties received 6,700 pounds of deer meat from the Hunters Helping the Hungry program, and that 397 children received gifts through Project Santa. She said WIRC Victim Services provided 1,800 programs on domestic violence and 6,000 programs and counseling sessions on sexual assault.
