JAMESTOWN, ND. (Newsdakota.com) – The Jamestown Blue Jays girls basketball team played close with Watford City in the first half before eventually falling 64-51 on the road Saturday.
Jamestown was led in scoring on the day by Grace Hegerle, who scored 16 points for the Jays. Annie Nabwe finished with another double-double, contributing 11 points for Jamestown. Nabwe still leads the state in rebounds per game, averaging more than 10 per game, two higher than anyone else in the conference.
Off the bench, Hunter Peterson, Breanna Oettle, and Rylee Joseph each finished with five points for the Jays. Ella and Katie Falk each had four points on Saturday afternoon.

Four Jamestown players finished in double figures, with sophomore Katie Falk leading the way for the Jays with 14 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Annie Nabwe finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, and senior Grace Hegerle contributed 11. Ella Falk had 10 points on the evening.
Kaylee Panchot got the start on senior night for the Jays and scored a season-high six points. Off the bench, Haylie Hakanson had seven points, and Hunter Peterson chipped in with six.
Jamestown improves to 13-6 overall on the year and will take on Watford City tomorrow to round out the regular season. The Blue Jays currently hold the #4 seed in the WDA tournament, holding the tiebreaker over Bismarck High for 4th.
ROCKFORD Guilford senior Jeremiah Davis led the Vikings (and one J-Hawk) to 55th place in the IHSA state chess championship Friday and Saturday.
Davis, who has been Guilford’s No. 1 player all four years in high school, came in needing four wins to set the area record for wins on the top board of the state chess championship. He opened with three straight wins to tie the record before dropping the next two. He broke the record by winning his final two matches.
Davis finished with a career record of 22-3-3 on Board 1, passing Auburn’s Vincent Do, who went 20-1 in three state appearances.
