In an anonymous letter, a group of alumni and parents wrote that the school they had long loved was abandoning real education in favor of “an obsessive focus on race and identity” in every class. In particular, the letter’s authors blame Pollyanna, a New York-based Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) nonprofit. The consultancy’s “racial literacy” curriculum, the letter claimed, “has already permeated Dalton classes from social studies to science” and contributed to “some of the worst abuses this year” incidents like the one in which a Jewish student was forced to play the “racist cop” in science class, or the art class on “decentering whiteness.”

Dec. 10, 2020 7:58 am ET Hunter College Elementary School teachers and administrators tussled over pandemic-related safety measures ahead of its reopening Monday, including how frequently to test students for the coronavirus to avoid outbreaks. The elite Manhattan school, which counts Broadway composer Lin Manuel Miranda and Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan among its alums, reopened with many other public schools after rising Covid-19 cases prompted the mayor to shut down in-person learning last month. At the heart of the recent testing tension: How many students learning in person should be tested, how frequently to do so to prevent outbreaks, and who should be responsible for managing it?
