City of Commerce police released a statement Monday about a shooting that happened in Commerce last Thursday. The shooting at a convenience store on Monroe Street resulted in serious injury to a young man, and the suspect, although identified, remains at large, police said.
Around 2:30 p.m. on April 8, the incident happened in the parking lot of the New Way convenience store at 1700 Monroe St., at the intersection of Chestnut St.
A 26-year-old African-American man was shot, police said. The man was later taken by helicopter from Hunt Regional Emergency Medical Center at Commerce to a Dallas hospital, the statement said. Police described his injuries as “critical.” The statement did not say how the man was transported from the site of the incident to the emergency room.
