joining me is dylan dryer, nbc s dylan dryer driving across west palm beach to the west gulf coast. dylan, what s the situation? well, hey, ali. you know, we are leaving west palm beach, which is where we were kind of hunkered down when the storm track was a little farther to the east, but we re not leaving because nothing s going to happen here. we re just heading to the west side of the state because we certainly do think there s going to be a major story in the tampa area if this storm maintains the track that it is. but as al just pointed out, it s all within that cone of uncertainty and the track of this storm is still not yet set in stone. but we are heading north on 95 right now. if you take a look out the front of the car you can see there are really not a whole lot of cars on the road. i think everybody has gotten to where they re going to be to ride out this storm. one interesting thing, you can t see and hear, but we ve passed several billboards that actually had holes pun
but my fear is all of those families have decided to hang in there, hunkered down in their home, maybe without power. maybe what s unbearable is going to become so oppressive that we may have a second wave of 911 calls. the last band around harvey is very light but leaving beaumont and it s picking up in speed. no longer one, two, three miles per hour. still more rain in eastern texas but the rate has dropped. dryer air has moved in to the system. maybe isolated seven or eight inches into kentucky and further northward. anderson. so, for you the heat is in the next couple days, that s one of the biggest concerns. well, personally, anderson, until the water s dropped in the
elizabeth: it is, it is. leland: it s terrible. it really is. and the worst is yet to come. i m leland vittert. elizabeth: i m elizabeth prann. hurricane harvey hit over texas towns and it s over a big part of the state dropping rain. it s not going anywhere soon. leland: this is video coming from the port aransas fire department. you can see those squad cars headed in, lights and sirens on. last night around 10:00 or 11:00 the port aransas police department tweeted out that they could not receive 911 calls. all their communications were down and they, themselves, have hunkered down essentially telling folks in the path of this storm, you are on your own and that s very close to where the eyewall passed over and now they re headed in just after day break to begin figuring out what went wrong and the damage that is in their city. so often now, it s after the
otherwise most the towns in the coastal area look like coast towns. perhaps people did heed the evacuations or hunkered down inside their homes. the last evacuation bus left this county at 1:30 today. the local mayor tells us anybody who is still here is facing the elements you see. we ve been seeing a lot of flashes. what could potentially be power outages. there s downed power lines. we re told there could be power out for many days and that can spell for disaster or a dangerous situation for anybody who decided to stay here. there s a curfew in place. we re being greeted by law enforcement officials checking to see who we are. if anybody was walking around they d be quickly approached by police or law enforcement official. in general if you were standing out here for an extended period of time it may not last too long. the wind and rain is pelting
practice. we all hunkered down but the shooter was mobile and he went from beyond the end of the third base dugout to the outfield, to the other side in the infield and kept firing. the security details were there. then he went behind another building still firing a rifle. then he came back around the other side of the building with a pistol. and that s where they were able to take him down. at that point when it looked like he was down, people started rendering pressure on the wound, making sure he was conscious and aware. they gave him fluids. shannon: members of congress don t always travel around with security details.
