More than 300 children sponsored by the Zero Hunger Trust Fund received food parcels and cheques this week to ensure they are having a balanced diet when at home.
Through the Fund, a specific cohort of students in several schools across the country usually receive assistance to purchase books and uniforms for school. They are also given lunches and snacks while at school.
However, due to COVID-19, schools remained closed for the second term, which began in January.

Luke Schindler, director of business development for the local plastics compounder, presented the pantry with a $1,000 charitable grant to assist in the organization’s mission of delivering essential food aid for local residents.

CityLink in Fontana held its 9th Annual Christmas Toy Store event on Dec. 15, helping to make the holiday a joyous one for more than 750 local families. This yearâs event looked quite different with toys being distributed via a mobile delivery, said Anna Ulibarri, the organizer of the celebration. Each child registered received a stocking stuffer, a stuffed animal, books and a large toy. Toys were displayed by age/gender and parents were able to choose gifts for their children from the appropriate age group.
More than 4,000 toys were given away over the course of several hours, and the parents as well as the children were quite thankful, Ulibarri said.
