Coronavirus: 285 Fatalities, 7,325 New Infections Registered in Hungary 285 patients died over the past 24 hours, while 7,325 new infections were registered, koronavirus.gov.hu said on Friday. The number of active infections has risen to 262,574, while hospitals are caring for 11,363 Covid patients,  1,364 of whom are on ventilators. Since the first outbreak, 705,815  infections have been registered, while fatalities have risen to 22,966. Fully 420,275 people have made a recovery. There are 46,775 people in official quarantine, while 4,861,310 tests have been officially carried out. So far 2,689,102 people have received a first jab, while 1,126,139 have been fully vaccinated. On March 5, the government announced further strict measures, but the reopening has started, since the number of people vaccinated with the first jab has reached 2.5 million.

Gov t: Reopening to Continue When 3 Million Inoculated

The government will make decisions concerning the next steps in easing coronavirus-related restrictions in Hungary once vaccinations reach 3 million, the prime minister’s chief of staff told an online press briefing on Thursday, adding that this was likely to happen within 5-6 days. Gergely Gulyás noted that over 1.5 million people had received at least the first of their shots during the past month, adding that Hungary was “one of the fastest vaccinating countries” in Europe. Asked about the view that the lifting of restrictions should be tied to the number of people who are fully inoculated, Gulyás said vaccine recipients already develop some level of immunity after receiving the first shot. Though two shots are required for an even higher degree of immunity, those who get at least one shot are significantly less likely to get infected, he said.
