ISLAMABAD: A missing Russian-American climber died on a mountain while preparing to scale the worldâs 12th-highest peak, having refused to turn back in dangerous winter conditions, a spokesman for the expedition said Tuesday.
Alex Goldfarb pushed on alone when his teammate failed to persuade him to give up during an acclimatising mission, ahead of a bid to scale the nearby 8,051-metre Broad Peak in the Karakoram range on the Chinese border. We are deeply saddened to have lost our climbing partner and friend, said Laszlo Pinter, spokesman for the Broad Peak Winter Expedition 2021. The helicopter search mission has found his body on Pastore Peak where he is presumed to have fallen off the mountain, he said in a statement.

Islamabad, Jan 20 (efe-epa).- A team of porters on Wednesday tried to recover the body of American mountaineer Alex Goldfarb at Pastore Peak (6,209 meters or 20371 feet), where he was found dead on Monday.
This marked the second death this season in the mountains of Pakistan following the death of Sergi Mingote of Spain.
“Today high altitude porters went up to take his body back,” Alpine Club Of Pakistan’s spokesperson Karrar Haidri told EFE.
He added that they did not know yet if the operation was successful or not.

A helicopter team spotted Goldfarb s remains during a search and rescue operation that began on Sunday, according to the Alpine Club of Pakistan.
He appeared to have fallen off the mountain, Hungarian expedition company Magyar Expedicios, which was supporting the climbers, said in a statement.
