Though the coronavirus pandemic dominated much of the year, the racial justice movement ran simultaneously with COVID-19. One of the unfortunate things that have survived COVID-19 is racism, said Duluth s Human Rights Officer Carl Crawford. We must continue to work toward building our communities and bringing our communities together, and the only way that we can do that is by first recognizing that there is a problem.
Crawford and many others feel the hurt of racism, even when it is endured by someone else. When I saw the murder of George Floyd, I wept uncontrollably because the only difference that I saw between me and George Floyd was I got to go home that night, Crawford said.
