Bangladesh politics: As citizens, we have been largely deprived of many rights, including our right to exercise franchise. Not only that, our politics is now under massive strain as a result of the attempts of the political parties to uproot their respective rival parties over the years.
The Bangladesh Constitution guarantees the right to assembly of the citizens as a fundamental right. But those who followed Bangladeshi politics over the years know how the right has been curtailed and how law enforcement agencies and both Awami League and BNP men have foiled various demonstrations of the opposition.
We and especially our government in Bangladesh must move away from the culture of denial and develop the confidence of being self-critical. No government in the world has ever fallen for being self-critical. On the contrary, it fell from power for being self-enamoured.
