There is no accurate record of how many undocumented individuals live in Alachua County. The Human Rights Coalition reports the number varies due to seasonal farm work.
As people become eligible for the vaccine, the community IDs become more relevant. The Human Rights Coalition of Alachua County provides the community with a reliable form of identification.
“You know, being able to prove that you are a resident of Alachua County means that you can get these, you know, COVID-19 tests that are accessible to Alachua County residents, and so in very vital ways, you know, the ID has made a difference,” said Elizabeth Ibarrola, the director of immigration concerns for Human Rights Coalition of Alachua County. “What we’re seeing now is that the same sort of case exists for vaccines.”
