Assailants kill woman near school in Manipur

A woman was shot dead near a school in Manipur, India, a day after students returned to classrooms following a two-month hiatus due to ethnic violence. The killing was unrelated to the violence, according to police, but has raised concerns about the safety of students. Since May 3, at least 123 people have died and over 50,000 have been displaced in ethnic clashes in Manipur. The government has not announced any changes to its plans for reopening schools, but some have questioned if the move came too early. The state is facing deep divisions and social rifts that need to be addressed in order to restore peace. | Latest News India
