leaders are conducting their business with the united states, vis-a-vis national security, what did that what are some of the headlines that came out of what you saw on that very topic? well, unfortunately i don t think they re very good. i mean, you know, first of all when the president so historically when the u.s. president goes to the dmz he goes to the dmz to talk about the strength of the alliance with south korea and the strength of deterrence, to ensure peace on the peninsula. now he s going to the dmz to meet the north korean leader to legitimize the world s worst human rights abuser and at the same time to say nothing about the strength of the alliances. we saw that the g20, and you see it in south korea and in japan, the president really doesn t value these alliances at all, or believe that there are common values held by these countries. he monetizes these alliances and thinks of them largely as countries that free ride off the u.s. security commitment. meanwhile he s
that they have taken the next step. the president of the united states inviting kim jong un, a dictator, a human rights abuser, a man who orders for the execution of his own family members to the white house is quite extraordinary. i mean, that is really breathtaking. so there needs to be progress. there needs to be something tangible that donald trump can take to his own country men, back in the united states, but also to the international community, to say that this man is, is valid. that he is credible. that we need to push this forward, and therefore it warrants a visit to white house, jim. yeah. we re watching, that s a live picture in your screen there. those are all the folks waiting outside the building, where we have the room where our jim acosta s reporting. kim jong un and president trump are still talking face-to-face in their bilateral behind closed
what does this mean? look, donald trump is hoping that this is a recess in relations between the united states and north korea. obviously those talks stalled in february after the hanoi summit abruptly ended, but certainly donald trump is looking at this gesture as a way to regain momentum on denuclearizing the korean peninsula. certainly speaking, jim, to many analysts, they feel this is theatrics, this is a photo opportunity albeit a symbolic of a photo opportunity. it legitimatizes kim jong un. this man is a dictator, a human rights abuser and he s also somebody who executes, orders the executions of his family members. here to talk about this and much
came to him yesterday morning when he tweeted it out to the north korean leader, maybe that gives it credence. but certainly, this is very historic. there is no denying that. slightly bizarre. because the question is, what does this mean? if anything. these two leaders have been talking, now, for over a year. this is their third meeting. since meeting in singapore last year. hanoi, those talks ended abruptly in february of this year. and now we re witnessing history. but it has it to be so much more. it can t just be a photo opportunity. it can t just be theatrics and the normalization of relations with the north korean leader. i mean, this man is a dictator. this man is a human rights abuser. this is a man who has ordered for the execution of his family members, not to mention, you know, he would rather starve, you know, his people and build a nuclear weapons program, which
on this issue the administration is in trouble. even if the allies i do and i suspect the iranians were responsible, the reason we re in this mess is because america withdrew from the nuclear agreement. iranians are serial human rights abuser and a regional troublemaker. but where does this go? and without an end game on the part of the administration, either to push the iranians back into a serious negotiation or at least to set up a deep conflicttion channel or hotline i think the headlines on this one are bad and the trend lines are bad and we could be heading for a serious confrontation. do you see great potential as it pertains to u.s. military involvement there and of course with congressional approval or are you worried that this administration may not be working with congress as it
