Woman jailed for acting as storeperson for international drug ring

NZ POLICE/SUPPLIED Evidence gathered as part of police’s Operation Mystic. Ramos Mazuela s son, Hugo Alarcon Ramos was jailed in 2020 for his part in the operation. The imports were believed to have taken place over three years under the direction of a convicted drug dealer, who has since been extradited back to New Zealand to face charges. After Alarcon Ramos became the “primary storeman”, he used his mother, Ramos Mazuela, to assist as a “storewoman”. She stockpiled drugs, re-packaged them and either delivered them to runners or had them collected and delivered to her. Crown prosecutor Ben Kirkpatrick said Ramos Mazuela had admitted her part in one of the biggest drug syndicates in New Zealand and her role as a “storeperson” was a distinctive one.
