THE UK hit another devastating milestone this week, as its death toll for people within 28 days of a positive Covid test topped 100,000. At a time when the country is trying to deal with figures too huge to even comprehend, each death from Covid-19 is personal to one family, one friend and one community. As Britain prepared for the first lockdown last year, John Head died on March 21, when the world still thought that respiratory symptoms might be the result of a chest infection, not a deadly virus. Mr Head was larger than life. He spent his time helping others and was described, by his best friend Hughie Stamper, as Mr Workington.

23/12/2020
More than 400 food hampers have been distributed to people in need across the Workington area over the last three days.
Members of Workington Rotary prepared 440 bags and several gift vouchers at Moorclose Community Centre to be given out in time for Christmas.
Alan Barry, club president, said: âI would like to thank Hughie Stamper, Tony Wareing and the team for a job well done. It looked a logistical nightmare, but Hughie as normal made it all look so easy.
We would also like to give a huge thank you to all of the partner groups involved in this enterprise.”
