Mistrial declared in Thibodaux murder case due to coronavirus concerns
Tyrick Hills, 21, is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 20-year-old Alex Moreno.
Following two days of testimony, District Judge J. Hugh Larose ordered a mistrial after a jury candidate tested positive for the coronavirus, officials said. It was brought to the court’s attention that a non-impaneled member of the jury pool had tested positive for COVID-19,” said David Melancon, the public information officer for the Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s Office. “Out of an abundance of caution, the court declared a mistrial. A new jury trial date has not yet been set.”
