Firm action demanded on the unfinished Orchard

Firm action is being demanded to resolve the issues at The Orchard estate in the centre of Dunleer. Cllr Hugh Conlon says he is bringing the issue to council again this week after residents expressed their frustration at the ongoing delays in completing the development. At one of the last council meetings, engineers said that it was hard to track down the developer and he would have to see if its possible to borrow money from the operations section to pay for works. The taking in charge is not progressing fast enough. With the building bond in place there shouldn t be a problem. I can safely say that the finishing standards on this estate are the worst I ve seen in decades, Cllr Hugh Conlon stated.

Wall collapse in graveyard

Relatives of people buried in the old Dromin graveyard have expressed fears that remains may become exposed after a wall surrounding graves collapsed into a neighbouring field. And now a debate has begun about who owns the graveyard and how the problem will be resolved. Addressing the area council meeting on the issue, Director of Services Joe McGuinness said there were 20 burial grounds in charge of the council and Dromin was not one of them. We are not walking away from this, even from a public safety point of view, but we have reviewed this with our own legal agents, he stated. It is not local authority vested, it s not ours.

Conlon calls for new Dunleer Fire Station to be built on new site on main road

LMFM By Ruth O Connell The Independent councillor argues the existing location involves crews exiting at a busy junction A mid Louth councillor has called for the new Dunleer Fire Station to be built on the main road that goes through the town, instead of on the current site. Independent Hugh Conlon told Louth County Council s monthly meeting that he believes the existing location on Barn Road, is unsuitable for the new development as it involves exiting a busy junction. Director of Corporate Services Joe McGuinness said that site appraisal has not been completed yet and the suggestion would be taken on board.

€1 6m funding approved for new Dunleer fire station

Funding of €1.6m has been approved for a new fire station for Dunleer. It is hoped a site across the road from the present Barn Road facility can be acquired for the project. The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O Brien TD, announced the funding last week, with Dunleer one of six new stations approved. It has been listed to start in 2021. For Dunleer Fire Station Officer, John Molloy, it s very encouraging news, but they have been waiting on the new base for many years now. It is good news and now we d love to see it starting, he stated.
