NYPD Deputy Inspector Jessica Corey said at a news conference Saturday that Burnette was being charged with burglary as a hate crime and also faces numerous charges related to the many acts of vandalism as hate crimes that have taken place in this community.

“I’m sickened to learn of yet another bigoted act of violence against an Asian-American man,”  said Governor Andrew Cuomo in a statement released on Sunday.  ” This is not who we are as New Yorkers, and we will not let these cowardly acts of hate against members of our New York family intimidate us, said Cuomo. On Friday, the NYPD released video of the victim being struck by a man from behind, causing him to the fall to the ground.   Moments later, you see the suspect repeatedly kick the victim multiple time in the head and then leaving the 61-year-old in a pool of his own blood.

The attack against a 61-year-old Asian man on East 125th Street and 3rd Avenue on Friday night is being investigated by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force.   On Sunday, Governor Andrew Cuomo directed New York State’s Hate Crimes Task Force to offer assistance in the investigation into the East Harlem attack. “I’m sickened to learn of yet another bigoted act of violence against an Asian-American man,” 

NYPD Searches for suspect in another Asian Hate Crime

The attack against a 61-year-old Asian man on East 125th Street and 3rd Avenue on Friday night is being investigated by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force.   On Sunday, Governor Andrew Cuomo directed New York State’s Hate Crimes Task Force to offer assistance in the investigation into the East Harlem attack. The victim, seen below, is now fighting for his life.  His niece told Eyewitness News’ CeFaan Kim that he immigrated to New York two years ago and moved to Harlem after his Chinatown apartment burned down and he lost his job due to the pandemic.  To support his family, he was collecting cans.
