High school seniors in Kearny and Bayonne can look forward to putting on their tuxedos and lavish gowns this spring, but not all Hudson County schools will be able to enjoy the senior milestone.
Gov. Phil Murphy paved the way for proms which were canceled last year because of the coronavirus pandemic when he announced Wednesday that he was removing all restrictions on the number of people at outdoor gatherings as of May 19.

Zanai Jones’ brilliant high school basketball career is just about over.
It seems like only yesterday that the sensational do-everything guard first stepped onto the floor at Hudson Catholic High School and now she’s poised to take the next step in her hoop dream life toward college life and a spot on the Villanova University women’s basketball roster in the fall.
“I know it all happened so fast,” Jones said. “It will all probably settle in when it’s over.”
So Jones wanted to make the most of her last season with the Hawks and leave her indelible mark at the school located on McGinley Square.

Hudson native Elizabeth “Liz” Tewksbary of Bolton has been writing daily letters to her granddaughter, Cohen, since she was born nearly three years ago. At the suggestion of friends and family, and the availability of self-publishing, “Liz” just published her third book for toddlers, “Smile With Me.” “Covid has isolated us, and the letters to Cohen were a good way to keep in contact,” said “Liz.” The letters were read to Cohen, who lives in Texas, by her mother, who was among those suggesting they would make good children’s books. The illustrations by Kim Soderberg are a perfect setting for the toddler books. “Liz” has previously published “My Mask and Me,” and “Just Like Me,” all suitable for ages 2-6 year olds. She has donated some books to the “CHAPS” center on Broad Street and other pre-schools, and they are also for sale at Bolton Orchards and “The Quilted Crow” in Bolton.
