HANNIBAL â Trees planted in recent years in the downtown Hannibal area are doing well, according to members of the Hannibal Tree Board.
Some of the newest plantings occurred last fall off of South Main Street, where a grove of Bald Cypress went into the ground. According to Tree Board President Kristy Trevathan only three of 70 trees did not survive.
âThat is a pretty good track record,â she said. âIt looks good down there.â According to Trevathan, two of the trees in the grove were literally pulled out of the ground. Another tree had been run over by a vehicle. Trevathan reported to the tree board on Wednesday morning that she intends to purchase replacement trees in the near future.
HANNIBAL â Rainbow trout will again be added to the pond in Huckleberry Park next year. The announcement was made by Andy Dorian, Hannibalâs director of central services, during the March meeting of the Hannibal Park Board.
âThe trout fishing has been wildly popular,â Dorian told the park board members. âPeople kept sending me pictures of themselves catching the limits. I donât know what they were doing (bait-wise), but it was really neat to see.â
The daily limit this year was four trout while the possession limit was 10 trout. In order to fish for trout in the pond, which is located in the 63-acre park at U.S. 61 and Huckleberry Drive, a valid fishing license and a trout permit were required.
HANNIBAL — The newly-improved pond in Hannibal’s Huckleberry Park is becoming a popular place to catch the rainbow trout that were released into the pond last fall.
