Say randy mmcalf beat another man because he was black. Black. Cbs 2 News Reporter kevin barry barrywas in the court room this morning when metcalf made his first appearance this morning. Morning. Ranan metcalf was in an orange jump suit and didnt say anything about the case as was expected for his initial appearance. The complaint filed by the assistant u u Attorney Says that metcalf beat a black man nearly unconscious during a bar fight because of his race. The fight was back on january 12th 2015 and happened when metcalf started using racial slurs towards a black man and the people he was with at the bar. The complaint says there was one smaller scuffle more racial l urs then a muchchbigger fight that ended with the black man and another woman nearly unconscious. Scott baxter with the Dubuque Police Department Says this is not very common but when it does happen, they do what they y can withth the law to make sure justice is serviced like using the federal escalation to a hate crime
