Taipei, April 29 (CNA) Sophie Chang (張淑芬), the wife of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) founder Morris Chang (張忠謀), said Thursday that her foundation will donate 1,200 uniforms to the firefighters who responded to the deadly Taroko Express train crash earlier this month.
Chang, who chairs the TSMC Charity Foundation, said she wants to help the firefighters wash away the nightmare of the traumatic accident by replacing their bloodstained uniforms with new ones.

Taipei, Taiwan A passenger train smashed into a truck on its tracks and partially derailed just outside a rail tunnel along Taiwan s east coast on Friday, killing at least 48 people, injuring dozens and leaving dozens trapped, local police said. Survivors were forced to climb out of windows and onto train car roofs to reach safety.
The National Fire Service confirmed the death toll, which included the train s young, newly married driver, and said all aboard had been accounted for. More than 100 people were injured, it said.

Taipei, April 2 (CNA) Local police are questioning the driver of a crane truck that is believed to have slid down a hillside and blocked the path of a moving train heading south in Hualien County on Friday, leading to an accident that caused the deaths of at least 48 people.
The driver, surnamed Lee (李), was still being questioned by Chungte police as of 4 p.m. Friday, according to the Xincheng Precinct of the Hualien County Police Department.
